An Agreement with the Office of the Ombudsman

The Medical Council and the Office of the Ombudsman have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will allow for the exchange of information and complaints between both offices. This agreement will benefit both the public and health services. The MoU will establish procedures to assist members of the public in assessing the services of both organisations.

Understanding between the Medical Council and the Practitioner Health Matters Programme

The Medical Council and the Practitioner Health Matters Programme ( PHMP) have agreed on this memorandum of understanding. It applies to the Republic of Ireland only and is intended to provide a framework to assist the joint working of the two organisations. It outlines the basis of co-operation between the two organisations. It sets out some of the principles underpinning the interaction between the two organisations and provides guidance on the exchange of information between them.

Healthcare Professionals Crossing Boards MOU

The Healthcare Professionals Crossing Boards have reached an understanding with participating European competent authorities and similar bodies (including the Medical Council) for the exchange of disciplinary information about Health Care Professionals in a proactive and case-by-case basis.

Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA)

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and the Medical Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work closely together for the benefit of safeguarding patients in Ireland. The MoU signals a commitment by both organisations to work closely together on the regulation of health and social services and the regulation of medical practitioners in Ireland for the benefit of the public.

HSE and the Medical Council Strengthen Working Relationship

The Medical Council and the Health Service Executive have agreed a memorandum of understanding to confirm both organisations’ commitment to co-operation in the interests of patient safety, it was announced today. The memorandum provides a framework to assist joint working on areas relating to patient safety and public health issues and sets out the principles underlying this collaboration. It was signed by the HSE’s Director General designate, Mr Tony O’Brien, HSE National Director, Quality & Patient Safety, Dr. Philip Crowley, and on the Medical Council’s behalf by CEO, Ms Caroline Spillane and President, Professor Kieran Murphy.

Medical Council and HSE Enhance Co-Operation on Medical Education and Training

The Medical Council and the HSE Medical Education and Training Unit have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which focuses on enhancing co-operation between the two bodies in the area of medical education and training. Recognising the positive impact of excellence in medical education and training on clinical practice and patient safety, the MOU puts in place a framework for co-operation which seeks to ensure that the medical education and training system in Ireland continues to produce doctors with a strong commitment to safe patient centred care, interdisciplinary team work, high ethical principles, lifelong learning and professional competency.

Regulators to Co-operate on Patient Safety

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) and the Medical Council will increase mutual cooperation following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two regulators, it was announced today. The memorandum is intended to provide a framework to assist the joint working of the two statutory regulators to ensure maximum effectiveness regarding public safety and public health issues when carrying out their statutory functions. The two bodies will aim to collaborate more closely in areas such as the discharge of their respective regulatory functions and the sharing of information, with particular emphasis on the safe and rational use of medicines in the interests of patient safety and public protection.

Medical Council and Irish Medicines Board Agree to Strengthen Cooperation

16th June 2011: The Medical Council and the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will strengthen the cooperation between the two bodies, further promoting the highest standards of practise in medicine. The MoU will see the Medical Council and the IMB formalise avenues of communication to facilitate the exchange of information in situations where either body come across information which could be considered relevant to the other body's role.
