Doctor Survey 2010

What is the 'Medical Council Survey on Alignment to a Postgraduate Training Body 2010'?

The "Medical Council Survey on Alignment to a Postgraduate Training Body 2010" is a questionnaire that needs to be completed by all doctors registered with the Medical Council on the General and Specialist Divisions of the Register. Its aim is to inform the Council about doctors' registration with a Postgraduate Training Body if any and to assist the Council in successfully developing Professional Competence Schemes.

What is the purpose of the survey?

In order to maintain a comprehensive Register of Medical Practitioners, and to ensure that doctors are in compliance with Part 11 of the Medical Practitioners Act, 2007 and enabled to engage in Professional Competence activities, doctors must complete the questionnaire and advise Council which Post Graduate Training Body they are aligned with. If a doctor is not registered with a PGTB they must declare on the questionnaire which PGTB they feel would be most appropriate for their area of clinical practice.

Part 11 of the Medical Practitioners Act, 2007 requires the Medical Council to ensure the Professional Competence of all doctors. Part 11, Section 91 (1) states "It shall be the duty of the Council to satisfy itself as to the ongoing maintenance of the professional competence of registered medical practitioners". In order to ensure doctors are entered under the correct division and enabled to participate in appropriate Professional Competence schemes, we require all doctors on the Specialist and General Divisions of the Register to complete this short questionnaire.

We need to ensure the records held by the Medical Council are the most up to date, that’s why we ask you to complete this form. We appreciate the time taken to complete the questionnaire and thank you for your cooperation.

What happens if I don't feel comfortable enough to provide this information?

The Medical Practitioners Act, 2007 requires the Medical Council to establish and maintain a register of Medical Practitioners, this is a legal requirement, and therefore failure to complete this questionnaire may mean the information we have for you on file is insufficient thereby causing your registration details to be inaccurate.
