Voluntary Withdrawal

Medical practitioners who wish to cease practising medicine in the Republic of Ireland may voluntarily withdraw their name from the Register. When voluntarily withdrawn, a medical practitioner does not have to pay the annual retention fee. However, it is an offence to practise medicine while unregistered.

Medical practitioners who wish to restore their name to the Register can do so by following the application process outlined here.

You can voluntarily withdraw your name by logging into 'My Account' and selecting the voluntary withdrawal request option.
