Professor Freddie Wood on the Culture of Safety
‘There is an assumption that institutions and individuals are safe and practise safety when in reality you don’t have a culture of safety from the time you wake in the morning to the time you sleep. I believe the philosophy of safety and managing risk is something that needs to be taught and it’s a statement and practice that you have to use for whatever you do in life, be it complex surgery, pilot space shuttles or primary care physician.’
Professor Freddie Wood’s welcoming address at our October conference ‘Enhancing the Culture of Patient Safety,’ touches upon the themes of the conference highlighting the importance of teamwork, openness and transparency. The full opening address video is now available to view here.
