Multi Source Feedback Pilot Study 2009 - 2010
As part of the development of Professional Competence Schemes, the Medical Council has recently conducted a pilot study on Multi-Source Feedback (MSF) among hospital-based consultants in Ireland. The aim of the study is to determine the feasibility of MSF as one of the core components of Professional Competence in advance of the Medical Council establishing Professional Competence Schemes under the Medical Practitioners Act 2007.
The study is being conducted in conjunction with an independent provider of online multi-source feedback systems, 360° Clinical Limited, and entails completion of a short online self-assessment questionnaire by volunteers, together with the completion of assessment questionnaires by nominated peers and patients.
The Medical Council launched this pilot study involving hospital-based Consultants in September 2009. This is the second pilot study conducted by the Medical Council on Multi-Source Feedback. The first pilot study was carried out in 2007 and involved general practitioners only. Please click here for information regarding the 1st Pilot Study, including the concluding Report to Council.
The purpose of the two pilot studies is to provide information to the Medical Council on the potential use of multi-source feedback as one of the components of professional competence schemes.
The pilot is now closed to volunteers. When all assessments have been completed, a report will be compiled for Council with recommendations on the validity and feasibility of Multi Source Feedback systems as a component of professional competence schemes in the future.
