How do I apply as a first time applicant?

If you are unsure which Division is appropriate for you, please refer to our eligibility chart and you will be brought through a short series of questions which will assist you in determining which category you are eligible to apply under. A full list of required documents is listed under each category.

Do you accept faxed or scanned copies of my documents?

In urgent circumstances, you may send in a faxed or scanned copy of your application form in order to commence your application process. However, you are required to send in the hard copies of all documents, including your application form, prior to being granted registration.

Who can notarise/attest my documents?

The Medical Council only accepts notarised/attested copies from the following:

  • Notary public,
  • Commissioner for Oaths
  • Justice of the Peace
  • Solicitor
  • Member of An Garda Síochána

Do I need to attend the Medical Council office for my initial registration?

No. Your documentation will be verified. There is normally no need for you to attend in person. Occasionally, it is not possible for certain applicants to obtain notarised/attested copies of their passport, in which case they may be requested to attend in person for an ID check.

How do I apply for a position in a post graduate training programme?

Please contact the relevant post graduate training body for information on how to apply for entry into a training programme. You can find contact details for the training bodies by clicking here.

How do I apply for a job?

The Medical Council cannot advise you about obtaining employment. In addition to advertisements in national media, there are many informative websites available. You might wish to try the HSE's website at www.hse.ie or www.publicjobs.ie.

How do I apply for a training post?

If you are in a formal postgraduate training programme, you will be assigned to a training post by the relevant postgraduate training body and you should contact them directly. If you are not in a training programme then you must apply directly for a training post when it is advertised by the clinical site. The Medical Council cannot advise you about obtaining employment.
