Enhancing Registration Processes, CEO's Update

As we look forward to the New Year, we have undertaken a process of evaluating our work during the year, and identifying priorities for next year.  The 2016 business plan will be published early next year, with many key objectives outlined for the year ahead.

In November, we conducted surveys of the profession and public, to gather respective views on a range of subjects relating to the work of the Medical Council and doctors’ practice. We will be publishing the results of these surveys early next year. We have received much feedback which will directly inform our focus in the New Year.     

We have made some inroads with our registration processes and have seen an increase in our output in 2015. Improvements include:

  • enhancements to our online registration portal, with over 99% of doctors now managing and retaining their registration online;
  • improved turnaround time on service requests, with real-time confirmation of receipt and most being dealt with within 24 hours.  These system and process enhancements have also enabled us to complete approximately 50% more registration applications in 2015.

We will also see improvements in our 2016 registration process, with the announcement of our partnership with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates to speed up the verification process for doctors' credentials. We envision this focus on process improvement, with fully online first-time applications, will reduce the timeframe given for registration processing.
Since the commencement of my tenure as CEO in the Medical Council, I have been impressed with the work undertaken by the Medical Council to improve and adapt our processes to better serve doctors and patients alike. I would like to thank both the Council and staff for their hard work over the year and we look forward to announcing more developments in 2016.
