16th International Conference on Medical Regulation (IAMRA 2025)
We are delighted to announce that the 16th International Conference on Medical Regulation (IAMRA 2025) will be hosted by the Medical Council of Ireland in Dublin, from 3rd – 6th September 2025.
About the IAMRA 2025 Conference
The conference is organised by IAMRA (International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities) and will be of interest to those involved in medical regulation and regulation of other health professions, medical education across the continuum, assessment and remediation, health care policy and medical workforce planning.
Attendees are invited to share their lessons learned, as well as opportunities to address challenges we now face. The Conference will include plenty of opportunities for networking. Highlights of the event will be a broad range of keynote speakers, engaging panel discussions, with the ultimate advantage of engagement, learning and sharing ideas with stakeholders and colleagues in medical regulation from around the world.

Objectives of the Conference
- Promote effective medical regulation by supporting best practice, innovation, collaboration and knowledge sharing to ensure public safety and enable the global medical workforce to deliver quality healthcare.
- Implement learnings and insights from colleagues to inform regulation, workforce planning, policy and the wider health service in Ireland and worldwide.
- Bring together and engage with international leaders and prospective colleagues in healthcare and medical regulation.
- Raise awareness of international best practices in medical and health professional regulation and further strengthen the knowledge of our community.

The confirmed keynote speakers so far include:
- Professor Dame Carrie MacEwen, Chair of the General Medical Council (UK) who will reflect on the importance of compassionate leadership in medical regulation.
- Leo Varadkar, former Taoiseach, currently Hauser Leader at the Centre for Public Leadership in the Kennedy School of Government in Harvard (keynote presentation topic to be confirmed).
- Dr Austin O’Carroll, a General Practitioner in inner-city Dublin, Ireland, who has focused his career on improving access for communities affected by marginalization or deprivation to quality primary healthcare. Dr O’Carroll will look into broadening access to medical education & training to people from disadvantaged groups.
- Tiberius Pereira, Chair of Patients for Patient Safety (Ireland) who will discuss what really matters for the community in the work of regulators.
- Professor Carl Macrae, Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Psychology at the University of Nottingham (UK) who will speak on patient safety systems, risk management, and the implications for regulators.
- Dr Raymond Chua, CEO Health Sciences Authority, Singapore and Deputy Director-General Health, Regulation, Ministry of Health Singapore who will discuss transforming regulations in tomorrow’s era of digital and personalised healthcare.
- Dr Rachelle Love, Chair of the Medical Council of New Zealand on the critical role of regulators in supporting health equity and cultural safety in health care.
- Professor Ivy Bourgeault, University of Ottawa, who will discuss innovative approaches to health workforce shortages.
