Comings & Goings at The Medical Council

The Medical Council is the regulatory body for doctors in Ireland. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting and better ensuring high standards of professional conduct, education, training and competence among doctors.

Medical Council Members

The Council consists of 25 members including both elected and appointed members. A term of office is for a period not exceeding 3 or 5 years. You can view a full list of current Council Members here.

Being a Council Member is both dynamic and challenging, and members play an important role in the overall health system in Ireland. Council Membership offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the protection of patients and to the integrity of medical regulation in Ireland. 

Council Members often bring diverse perspectives, professional experience and a genuine commitment to patient safety. Full training is provided to all Council members.
