I’m not sure if I have completed my annual retention. Is there a way of checking?

Yes, you will receive an email with your digital certificate within 24 hours. You can also check the status in your online registration account. A note will confirm if you have completed annual retention.

I only registered, for the 1st time, within the past few months; do I need to complete the annual retention form?

Any doctor registered between 1st May and 30th June 2015 is registered until 30th June 2016. There is no other registration fee to pay until July 2016.

How long does it take to receive my certificate?

Due to our online capabilities, a digital annual retention certificate is issued within 24 hours. This will now replace hard copy versions.

I have received my certificate of registration. Can you send me a duplicate?

The Annual Retention Certificate is the electronic pdf certificate issued each year for the annual twelve month retention period.  It is issued in electronic format only. You can request a copy through your online registration account. There is no charge for this service.

I plan to transfer divisions; will this affect my annual retention process?

If transferring to another division, you should contact the Medical Council to update your details and division so the Medical Council can supply you another annual retention cert.

Should I pay the annual retention fee if I am transferring between the trainee specialist and general divisions of the register?

Yes. You should pay the annual retention fee.

I have applied to transfer to the specialist division. Should I wait until this transfer is complete before paying my annual retention fee?

No. You must pay your annual retention fee, regardless of which division of the register you are entered in.

Is there any necessary documentation I need to include? 

Documentation may be required to support any statement/evidence given in your annual retention application form. This could include any disclosure of:

• • Fitness to practise findings
  • Sanctions or penalties
  • Undertakings
  • Refusals for registration
  • Criminal convictions.

The online application form asks about professional competence. Why?

As it is your legal obligation to maintain your professional competence, it is the Medical Council’s obligation to audit procedures and ensure doctors are up to date with the professional competence scheme.
