Are you Coming to Ireland to Practise Medicine?

The first step

If you are coming to Ireland we strongly recommend that you apply and are deemed eligible for registration before seeking employment. 

If you are looking for a job as a doctor the following websites are a useful resource;

Working in another country can be a daunting experience, for information on support groups, coming to live in Ireland, rights of residence in Ireland and working in Ireland, visit the Citizens Information website.

Registered with the Medical Council

Once you have secured a job in Ireland, you should apply for registration promptly. The Medical Council may request a number of documents to assess your eligibility for registration including;

  • Relevant application form related to the division of registration you are applying for - Find out what division you may be eligible for
  • Certificate of Current Professional Status- This proves you are currently in good standing with no ongoing proceedings, conditions or findings against you and should be sent directly to the Medical Council from your previous regulatory authority.
  • Application fee
  • All documents must be notarised by a Notary Public or attested by a Justice of the Peace/Commissioner for Oaths/Member of An Garda Síochána (documents signed by a Police Officer from another State are not acceptable).
