Pre-Registration Examination System (PRES) Level 3

PRES Level 3 is a clinical based assessment of Communication, Interpretation and Practical Skills. Candidates must pass PRES Level 2 or equivalent before being permitted to sit PRES Level 3. Please refer to the PRES Handbook for further details regarding the PRES Level 3.

Results of the PRES Level 3 held in Cork on 19th June 2018

Results from the Cork PRES Level 3 exams are now available.  A list of the candidates who were successful in this examination can be found here, candidates are identified by their Medical Council reference number only.  Successful candidates will receive their eligibility e-letters within 10 working days.  Candidates who were unsuccessful in this exam will receive an email with a breakdown of their result scores.

Autumn PRES Level 3 Examination Schedule & Applying for a place in the PRES Level 3

The date for the upcoming PRES Level 3 can be found here. We expect to open applications mid-July 2018. All eligible candidates will be emailed the autumn Important Notice and Application form. All eligible candidates will be notified prior to the release date for applications. Candidates are required to sit the interpretation skills and the communication/practical skills over one day.

Booking the PRES Level 3

The Medical Council endeavour’s to give as much notice as possible prior to the date of the PRES Level 3. When a date is confirmed for the PRES Level 3, all eligible candidates will be notified by email. The exam dates and application form will be available on this webpage and will also be emailed to eligible candidates. The PRES Level 3 is usually held two to three times per year depending on demand in Dublin, Cork, Galway or Limerick.

Results from the PRES Level 3 exam in Cork are expected to be available before end of July 2018. Candidates who were successful in this examination will be uploaded here. Candidates are identified by their Medical Council reference number only. Candidates who were unsuccessful in these exams will be contacted by email with a breakdown of their results.

Appeals

Candidates who wish to appeal their Level 3 examination results should complete an appeal form and return it to the Medical Council no later than the given closing date. Candidates who are considering making an appeal should ensure to read the important notice accompanying the application form in relation to the grounds an appeal can be made on. Please note that a fee of €65 applies to all appeal applications. Applicants who wish to pay by credit or debit card should include a valid payment form with their appeal. The important Notice and Appeal Form can be found here.

Withdrawing from a place in the PRES Level 3

In the event that a candidate is unable to attend a PRES Level 3 examination for which they have already accepted a place, they should notify us immediately by completing the Level 3 withdrawal form, and returning it to the PRES Section of the Medical Council by email or by post.

If a candidate withdraws prior to the closing date for applications they are entitled to a partial refund of €750 (€815 less service fee of €65). If a candidate does not inform the Medical Council of their withdrawal from the examination prior to the closing date for applications their application fee will be forfeited.

Updating Personal Details

If any personal details (e.g. address, passport number, passport expiry date) change while a candidate is eligible to take the PRES, the candidate should notify the Medical Council as soon as possible by emailing pres@mcirl.ie quoting their Medical Council reference number.
